The BRS damper was working incorrectly over the last few days. As described in 14388, the vibration from the damper occasionally drives up the beam-balance's fundamental mode. This lead to incosistent damping. On Wednesday night, Robert Schofield and I tried adding some foam under the turn-table platform, which seemed to help. The BRS damped down correctly that evening. The next day, it failed to damp again. I noticed that the foam had gotten squished almost completely, thus not providing much isolation.
This morning, I made three small U - shaped springs out of steel shims and laid them under the platform, along with some foam for damping. The damper seems to be working correctly for now. I will monitor it over time and check to see if this is a suitable long term solution.
