Long control cable for Y-end NextTorr NEG+ion pump is OK

Initial attempts to utilize the "long" control cable which would enable the remote location (adjacent room) of the control power supply had resulted in cryptic supply power-related errors at the controller unit.  As such we had been forced to run this unit in the VEA using a short control cable.  It had been assumed that something was wrong with the long control cable.

Today, I did some experimenting and determined that the controller didn't "like" our 122.8 VAC at the receptacle in the adjacent room.  This same control unit gave no errors and had been working for the past few weeks when powered by a power strip in the VEA. which measured 121 VAC.  The apparent acceptable voltage range of this European-sourced controller is between 110 - 120 VAC.  To demonstrate this, I used a small variac to reduce the 122.8 VAC at the desired receptacle to < 117 VAC.  Following voltage reduction, the controller has stopped complaining and seems to be working just fine.

SAES claims that the controller can handle up to 130V and suspects the line is noisy. Regardless, a variac is a good solution. We will ask Ken to install two more dedicated vacuum receptacles in the mechanical room.
