TITLE: 09/25 Day Shift: 15:00-23:00 UTC (08:00-16:00 PST), all times posted in UTC
STATE of H1: Observing at 114Mpc
INCOMING OPERATOR: Travis
SHIFT SUMMARY:
OPERATOR NOTE: lscparams.py has been adjusted (Jenne) so that we no longer get SDF diffs for ASC HARD RPC gains (see alog).
About 78min of PEM COMMISSIONING time (which ended due to a lockloss which adds +135min to get back to OBSERVING). The PEM Commissioning time included (2) separate PEM team activities: (1) EY TMS scatter & (2) HAM3 stray beam investigations.
OPERATOR OBSERVATION: My last (3) locking experiences in a row needed an Initial Alignment to make it to NOMINAL LOW NOISE. Only (3) data points here, but before all these initial alignments, H1 would break locks repeatedly during the ASC (i.e. ENGAGE ASC for FULL IFO) steps.
TeamSpeak has been down for most of the shift.
LOG:
- Optics Lab: 16:10-16:19 (Ethan), 17:43 (Cheryl), 22:34 (Betsy)
- LOCK#1 14:20-15:13
- Hand-off from TJ where he touched up PRMI/DRMI alignment
- DRMI acquired at around 50...later ASC took to 60.
- LOCKLOSS at ENGAGE ASC FOR FULL IFO
- 15:15-15:30 A 2nd HAM3 black glass installed (Robert)
- LOCK#2 15:14-15:31
- DRMI acquired at around 60.
- LOCKLOSS at ENGAGE ASC FOR FULL IFO
- 15:33-15:53 Initial Alignment
- 15:45 Ken moving from MX to MY
- 17:53 Off to EY
- 18:03 Off to EX instead since EY needed lights off for commissioning
- 19:50-21:05 Ken to EY
- 15:50, 20:52-21:35 anchor bracket install for turbo stands at MY (Tyler)
- LOCK#3 15:54-16:27
- DRMI acquired at around 50.
- Made it through CARM to TR (just noting since first lock post-alignment)
- Made it to NOMINAL LOW NOISE
- 16:43 Back to OBSERVING (will stay here for about an hour and then hand over to PEM crew for COMMISSIOING time)
- NOTE: Changed the (4) ASC HARD gains by hand (per JeffK's instructions)....This was my first time doing this on my own. I did this one at a time for each filter bank, and so this took about 5min...getting set up and then making each change with the 30sec Time Ramp.
- 16:40 received Incoming Earthquake alert via Verbal & might switch to EARTHQUAKE state for a 6.1 EQ in Argentina (it was a deep one of ~168km).
- Will hold off on transitioning to EARTHQUAKE until start seeing effects on PeakMon ndscope, ASC/Tidal Striptools
- 10:24 start seeing R-wave on peakmon ndscope, BUT
- This was small and not big enough to transition, so we stayed in WINDY the whole time!
- 17:41 Drive to EY (Robert & DavidS)
- 17:47 Transition to COMMISSIONING: EY entry & wifi turned on for PEM TMS scatter work.
- 17:47 SEI_CONF to WINDY_NOBRSY
- 17:59 PEM HAM3 Work (Cheryl heading out)
- 18:14 BSC2 illuminator ON (corey for cheryl)
- 18:44 Rebooting due to updates (DaveB): nuc22, nuc20, nuc21, nuc23, nuc5, nuc26, nuc24
- 18:58 Drive down X-arm, meet Ken, & drive down Y-arm (RichardM)
- 19:05 Lockloss
- About 70sec before, PR Gain became noisy and then really noisy!
- ~19:30 PEM Team working around HAM3
- 19:32 took SEI_CONF back to the WINDY state
- LOCK#1: 19:39-20:00 Keita at the helm
- DRMI looked ugly, but eventually locked after about 9min.
- LOCKLOSS at ENGAGE ASC FOR FULL IFO
- 19:49-20:04 HiBay crane activity (Tyler, Gerardo)
- LOCK#2: 20:01-20:26
- DRMI locked in about 9min
- LOCKLOSS at ENGAGE SOFT LOOPS
- 20:21 Jenne updated lsc_params guardian script to address ASC HARD gain diffs we've been having due to the PSL Power.
- 20:25 MY trip (Gerardo)
- 20:27-20:45- Initial Alignment
- LOCK#3 20:46-21:16
- DRMI locks in less than a min!
- Made it thru CARM ON TR
- Third lock (yesterday & today) I've done where it gets to NLN after I do an alignment
- Did NOT have to change ASC HARD gains (Thanks, Jenne!)
- 21:18 5.4 Chilean EQ rolled through (no Verbal alert given & no action taken); it was seen via Peak Mon ndscope & ASC control/tidal signal strip tools.
- 21:20 Back to OBSERVING
- 21:33 Drive to bee hive at +1km location of X-arm (Bubba)
