Phil and Mark re-routed the power cables for the NCAL such that we are now running power to and from the correct locations and the power supply to the NCAL has been uprated to allow for more amperage (LHO alog 53355). In the process of the upgrade, the power to the NCAL Beckhoff has been switched to another power supply and the voltage has been increase slighty (from 23.8V to 24.2V). The DC power supply that was providing DC power to the Motor (via the motor controller) has been removed and the DC power is now supplied via the power racks. The AC power is now being supplied by socket number VEAC01A-3.
I conducted safety tests to ensure that the procedures outlined in section 5 of the NCAL Procedure (T1900711). When first using the emergency stop button the MEDM screen, the NCAL did not come to a halt. This was because the incorrect channel was connected to the button however, once the correct channel was connected (H1:CAL-NCALX_HALT_EXECUTE), the NCAL came to a stop from spinning once the button was pushed. When testing the recovery from using the emergency stop button, it was possible to spin the NCAL by pressing execute then reset in the Update row. This should not be the case and will be addressed later. All other safety methods work as intended. Using the power off button, removing the ethernet cable from the motor controller (simulating a Beckhoff comms failure) and removing the power during NCAL spinning require a full Beckhoff code restart to recover the NCAL. In order to investigate the noise reported by DetChar at EX, suspected to be the NCAL satellite box and/or optical encoder, I moved the spectrum analyser from the far side of the room (past the BRS - not sure if the BRS was affected by this) and to the near side of the room. I powered the satellite box and attempted to take a measurement of the NCAL while it was static. The spectrum analyser broke while I was using it so I had to abandon WP 8467. I left the NCAL optical encoder powered off however, I have plugged in the BNC cable into the DAC rack in the EE bay.
Started work at around 0930 PDT (1730 UTC) and left the XVEA at around 1120 (1920 UTC) PDT.
