PSL Laser Upgrade Progress - Layout Install Begins

J. Oberling, C. Vorvick, J. Driggers

Not much to report today.  After getting the NPRO laser setup and de-rated for alignment (output power is ~90mW for alignment work, using an injection current of ~900mA), we have begun installing and aligning the new layout.  We only have a couple of components on the table so far, and layout installation and alignment will continue tomorrow.

A few other PSL activities today:

  • Jenne and I removed the remainin C3 covers that were still on the North side of the PSL table.  We folded and wrapped each cover as we took them off of the table, to capture any particulate that had settled on the C3 during or the thourough cleaning Karen and Kim did last week.
  • Jason and Jenne identified new mounts, and installed the optical components
  • I loccated 8/32 x 7/8" screws which are needed for the rectangular mounts that have side blocks that hold beam dumps.
  • Rick and Jason made plans for the new plumbing layout, finding parts, and posibly swapping connectors for the IO High Power Beam Dump spare, to see if it's possible to remove the quick connects.  Jenne and I joined them and we talked about ways to route the hoses on, around, and off of the table.
    • we also talked about relocating the IO electronics that were in the enclosure for O3, and the possibility of moving them to outside of the enclosure and possibly mounted to the North Wall, to further reduce the heat load inside of the PSL enclosure.
  • Two Days Ago (on Monday): I retaped the Periscope X and Periscope Y accelerometer cables to the periscope.  I taped the Periscope X cable first, and then taped the Periscope Y cable next to it, but not touching.  Pictures attached.
