[Austin, Georgia, Varun, Craig, Jenne]
- Init alignment, green Yarm DOF1 yaw was osc, needed to reduce gain by factor 2. I thought this had been changed by Sheila in alog 62247, but maybe not loaded? The changes were in the guardian, so I hit 'load' on both ALS_XARM and ALS_YARM.
- TR QPD B offsets were again not good. Reset them.
- By-hand engaged SRC1 SRC2 and PRC1 in DRMI (after resetting POP A yaw offset to be at a good spot for POP18, although that spot is at 0.7 on the POP A QPD). Austin changed DRMI guardian to use them next time, and then checked in ISC_DRMI.py
- Used move_arm_dev to get DHARD WFS closer to zero. Still lost lock at DHARD_WFS though.
- Same story, again. But, had not engaged DHARD_WFS (we were sitting at DARM_TO_RF) and still lost lock. I suspect we need to move either CHARD or one of the SOFT degrees of freedom.
- Next lock, sitting at DARM_TO_RF, tried moving some soft, some hard, was able to see POP18 go down, but not really able to get arm powers better. Perhaps because no ASC is on except MICH?
- Put the Monday night settings for ITMY modes 5 and 6 into lscparams.
- Our green initial alignment setpoints appear not to have been saved in SDF :( Georgia and Austin are putting them back, then will redo initial alignment, then hopefully things will go more smoothly.
- After a redo of the initial alignment, we're able to get farther, but have several times now lost lock when finishing the CARM offset reduction sequence. We're going to stop and have a look at whether CHARD is well enough aligned. It may also be that we can't do these somewhat more delicate states while the HAM7 crew is working on the door.
- Georgia has been having a look at our refl dip, and it seems like it should be fine, and that the arms are likely well enough aligned. POP18 is up at 71(!) which means the corner is quite nicely aligned.
- Georgia found alog 58273, and reminds us that once-upon-a-time in March 2021, we just skipped over CARM_5pm. So, today after CARM_OFFSET_REDUCTION (which leaves H1:LSC-TR_CARM_OFFSET at -40), I ramped the TR_CARM_OFFSET to -42 to be a bit closer to resonance, then we manual-ed to CARM_TO_REFL. This worked, and we kept going up the ladder. We started going through the PREP_ASC_FOR_FULL_IFO, but lost lock.
- Our power recycling gain was only 42, down from our usual of ~56+ at 2 W full resonance. This probably is related to our REFL DC being too low.
- Tried again the skipping 5pm state, but this time we must not have been close enough to resonance. Very wobbly PRgain, lost lock after ~15 sec.
- We relocked up to CARM_OFFSET_REDUCTION, and Georgia pointed out that things just looked a tad better, better buildups, better refl dc, etc. So, we tried and were able to go all the way to PREP_ASC_FOR_FULL_IFO and stay there. Once there, we moved IM4 and PR2 to get INP and PRC closer to zero, then stepped CHARD. This process made things much better, we had PRG once again above 50.
- We requested the guardian to engage ASC, but that did not work. Probably because the ADS moving the PRM needed to go a very long way, and it couldn't go that far that fast, and still have everything else keep up. So, we're leaving all the sliders as they were, and going to try to relock.
- Just leaving all the sliders as they were did not work :( Perhaps because the DRMI ASC undid the IM4 and PR2 moves? This next time, we're going to go to carm_offset_reduction, and then try stepping IM4, PR2, and CHARD similar to how we did the last successful lock.
- The time that things did work, REFL was up at 3.6. The times that it didn't, REFL was down at 3.2 with the TR_CARM offset at -40.
- Did that, hand walked a bit, then ran through guardian more up to prep_asc.
- Engaged everything in the Main part of engage_asc *except the ADS3*. Also, reverted the DHARD gain increases that happened, since it started oscillating.
- Georgia moved PRM to get the ADS3 error signals closer to zero, which is improving buildups.
- Ran Engage_ASC, seems fine.
- Stepped Ysoft a bit to get ADS5 signals closer to zero, then ran Engage_soft_loops.
- I once again had to move an OM optic (this time I used OM3) to get enough light on the OMC QPDs for the OMC to start locking.
- Varun checked all of the violin mode settings, so Georgia is putting engaging the violins back into the main guardian.
- Seems unfortunately like some settings that were okay in the past (higher gains) aren't okay now. So, we've rung up a 1kHz mode pretty significantly. :(
- Looks like an ITMX mode 11/12 mode got set to max gain of 200, rather than the lower gain that had been working. We're setting the max gain values to be the same as our good gain values in lscparams so that we don't ever get too much gain when we're not expecting it. The filters and phase were fine, it just didn't like the higher gain.
- Reengaging damping with the lower gain, and it's already damped!
- I've reset the green initial alignment setpoints, to capture where we are tonight. I'm not at all sure why the values that we had last week were not good today, but at least it's a digital revert to go back and forth, once we know what they are.
- The attached screenshot is the SDF tables just before accepting the new values. Earlier today Georgia had ensured our last week values were the accepted ones in SDF, so this should be a good reference, with the last week values in the Setpoint columns, and the now values in the EPICS value columns.
- We're leaving the IFO overnight, locked on DC. Hopefully some of these violins will get gently damped overnight. None of them are a big problem, but as always, the less violin the better.
- Varun is continuing to look at violin modes.
The Violin mode damping is tested for second harmonics for all but ITMY. The lscparams is updated and the changes are loaded into the Violin damping guardian.
For ITMY modes 11 through 18, the settings in the guardian is undamped, that is the gain is 0 for all these modes. We should check these gain values but they seem to be undamped even last year. Other than this all modes are being damped overnight. Other small change was tested successfully: ETMX mode 2 was increased from -0.2 to 20. The latter was the previous max gain value in the Voilin mode damping guardian. Lastly, ITMY mode 6 is the highest of all the violin modes.
The ITMY mode 6 seems to be ringing up.
yes mode 6 was indeed going up (and mode 5 coming down?), see high resolution spectra attached (focussing on 7.30 pm last night when you switched off itmy mode 6 damping).
