PEM ACC labeling and reconnected EX ACC OPLEV

Miranda, Dave:

Friday afternoon we updated the cable labeling for the ACC BNC coax cables at EX, MX and MY. EY cables were already complete.

At EX we reconnected the BNC for H1:PEM-EX_ACC_OPLEV_ETMX_Y_DQ which we had found to be disconnected. Plot shows it had a signal until the 23rd June of this year.

Corner Station PEM Accelerometer mismatch identified and fixed

Miranda, Dave:

Over the past week we have documented the LHO PEM accelerometers and produced an as-built  wiring drawing

This was in response to a possible misreading of accelerometer(s) with the wrong channel names.

We found three accelerometers with incorrect names, which date back to pre-O4, so I'm tagging DETCHAR.

The accelerometer Was being readout as this channel
H1:PEM-CS_ACC_LVEAFLOOR_HAM6_Z_DQ H1:PEM-CS_ACC_BEAMTUBE_SRTUBE_X_DQ
H1:PEM-CS_ACC_BEAMTUBE_SRTUBE_X_DQ H1:PEM-CS_ACC_EBAY_FLOOR_Z_DQ
H1:PEM-CS_ACC_EBAY_FLOOR_Z_DQ H1:PEM-CS_ACC_LVEAFLOOR_HAM6_Z_DQ

We fixed this at 16:00 Thursday 13th August 2026 PDT by remapping the BNC connections on the front panel of APC1. The cable going to port12 was moved to port13, that going to port13 was moved to port14 and that going to port14 was moved to port12.

We tap-tested the EBAY_FLOOR accelerometer at 16:10 and this showed up on H1:PEM-CS_ACC_EBAY_FLOOR_Z_DQ

mirandarose.claypool@LIGO.ORG - 09:39, Friday 21 August 2026 (91637)CDS, DetChar, PEM

For detchar: Based on our (dave, robert, my) best guesses, this error starts on JAN 26th 2024 when the ENdevcos, as well as the signal conditioners for the accelerometers, were replaced (alog 75592). This is post end of O4a (Jan 16th 2024), so the data for O4a is okay, but the data for O4b/c is affected. This means that if there's an hveto round winner/trigger/pemcheck correlation/etc for one of the three channels on the right, it will instead be data from the detector on the left column. For clarity:

  • If the trigger says H1:PEM-CS_ACC_BEAMTUBE_SRTUBE_X_DQ, then the data is actually from the lvea floor accelerometer, H1:PEM-CS_ACC_LVEAFLOOR_HAM6_Z_DQ.
  • If the trigger says H1:PEM-CS_ACC_EBAY_FLOOR_Z_DQ, then the data is actually from the beamtube accelerometer, H1:PEM-CS_ACC_BEAMTUBE_SRTUBE_X_DQ.
  • if the trigger says H1:PEM-CS_ACC_LVEAFLOOR_HAM6_Z_DQ, then the data is actually from ebay accelerometer, H1:PEM-CS_ACC_EBAY_FLOOR_Z_DQ.

Here are some examples that I hope help clarify (as I was also confused):

  • When Dave and I tapped the ebay floor accelerometer with a pen, there was a spike on the ham6 floor accelerometer channel. So, H1:PEM-CS_ACC_LVEAFLOOR_HAM6_Z_DQ was incorrectly reading data from the ebay floor accelerometer and not the lvea floor accelerometer.
  • Likewise, when Robert unplugged the srtube accelerometer, the ebay floor z channel disappeared. So, the H1:PEM-CS_ACC_EBAY_FLOOR_Z_DQ channel was receiving information from the srtube accelerometer.
  •  I've also attached spectra that shows a few days before and after the switch, Jan 25th and Jan 29th, 2024. You can see the channel names change for the different spectra while retaining the same shape.

Pending Filter Files:

h1calcs had a modified filter file waiting to the loaded. The running filter file was last loaded 16jul2026, H1CALCS.txt was modified at 10:52 27jul2026 and not loaded. I made a local copy of the modified file, then removed the changes by doing a subversion revert. This cleared the CFC flag on h1calcs.

From what I can tell, I think we are mostly in a good spot for SDFs. The few items to note:

  • JAC-PZT_WHITEN_SET_2 - spekaing with Sheila the current config matches the dewhitening so we accepted it.
  • There are channels not initialized on PEMCS, SUSFC2, IOPSUSB123, SUSAUXH34. Nothing was done about these

The two SDF screens we have are out of date. There have been many models added or names changed that we have not kept up with, and made this a bit harder. We will update these asap.

First In-vac Components for SPI Pathfinder Installed!! ISI HAM2 (ISIJ) Reflector Assembly Installed and Cabled up to Feedthrus
J. Kissel, J. Warner
ECR: E2400026
WPs: 13237, LHO:13238
Final Design Doc: T2400145
Relevant Systems Level Drawings:
    . Mechanical Assemblies
        :: ISIJ Reflector D2400102
        :: HAM Table Baffles D1700335
        :: HAM2 Systems Layout D0901083 (not yet-inclusive-of-SPI)
    . Electronics Wiring Diagram
. Cable Routing In-vac Cable Routing Plan from G2401479 (pages )
    . Flange Layout D1002873-v11

Executive summary:
    - Removed ISIJ +X-side, center, HAM2 ISI table baffle from D1700265-v4 Type 2
:: Bracket mounting bolts left screwed into ISI optical table for this will eventually become a D1700265-v4 Type 3 and remounted.
    - Installed ISIJ Reflector + QPD Assembly D2400102 on +X ISI side wall (D071057-v2), with its shroud (D2500030) in place
:: We didn't weigh it, but the SW Assembly predicts a mass of 1.96 [kg], which we can likely round up to 2.0 [kg] with the shroud installed.
    - Routed and connected QPD read-out cable system to D3 flange, F10 spigot.
    - Routed and connected picomotor cable system to existing D1101515 quadrupus leg Cable #3, J4
:: Cable #4, J5 is connected to IO PM5 mirror, Cables #2 J3 and #1 J2 were reset in neat coil with connectors floating to avoid electrical grounding as before.
    - Nudged make-shift baffle system using D1700261 ballast mass baffle mounted vertically on the +X / +Y / Beam Height corner of the chamber wall upon entry into beamtube.
:: the will DEFINITELY need a technically-minded reset.

In at 10:30a PT and out by 12:30a PT. It's so lovely when everything goes to plan!

Removing Center ISI Table Baffle

Not much to say more here -- removal was easy. We tried "just" removing the panel using the the coated/capped screws, but these didn't budget upon several attempts with Jim's fingers and grunts. So, elected to fight that battle outside the chamber and removed the whole assembly at the table mounting point.

The full assembly is wrapped in dry-wipes, foil, and ameristat bagged and in Mitch's office while it waits for the Type 03 version of the panel to come out of clean-n-bake.

Installation of ISIJ Reflector itself

Also not much to say, other than the great joy that the drawings of the D071057-v2 ISI Side Wall have the irregular positions of the 1/4-20 utility holes accurate enough that Bram's CAD-informed-only mounting holes for the ISIJ reflector's baseplate of the reflector lined up without issue. *phew*

Also -- the D2400102 drawing doesn't highlight which length 1/4-20 bolt should be used for mounting, so we used 1/4"-20 x 0.625"L (5/8"), which was "just enough."

Pictures from the main entry are the best "big picture" views, but here I attach a few more in case the need arises.

QPD Cable Routing

We didn't get dedicated pictures of this QPD cable routing but,
    - it follows the plan on page 22 of In-vac Cable Routing Plan posted to G2401479-v3,
    - You can see the ST1 portion of it well-enough in the above pictures,
    - Jim did the routing, so I trust that there's a healthy loop in the jump from ST1 to ST0, and
    - I attach a picture here of the record that we've connected it to D3-F10, and a copy of the "F-Type" (D2000225-v1) counting from page 18 of the above mentioned cable routing plan.

Picomotor Cable Routing BEFORE INSTALL

Just because we knew little about the details of this cable system ahead of time given how ancient the PM5 picomotor actuated mirror system, I got a lot of good "before" pictures. Mostly, I confirm that PM5 does use the Cable #4 J5 leg of the D1101515 quadrupus, and all the other legs were neatly cable-tied up and away.

Picomotor Cable Routing AFTER INSTALL

Here're photos of the routing of the two 72 [in] length D2400316 picomotor extension cables connected in series and routed to all the way around from the ISIJ reflector on the +X face to the -X / +Y corner of the table where CB-9 and the D1101515 quadrupus lives.

I paid particular attention to the connectors and made sure they were left floating and not shorting to anything metal.

I also re-bundled up Cable #2 J3 and Cable #1 J2 in coil similar to the before pictures, again ensuring that the connectors are floating in both space and electrical connection.

On the new channel assignment of HAM2's SPI ISIJ picomotor, and why I'm confident it's CH7:

Per D1000581-v13, page 13 and then D1900511-v12 page 17, I'm quite confident that the quadrupus cable and up in CH5-8 of the controller on IOT2L, called "PICOMOTOR 5" in D1900511, which I guess becomes "Picomotor B / Slot 2" on page 2 of the ECAT System Diagram D1100683-v11.

This is corroborated with opening up the picomotor MEDM screen -- sitemap > LSC > picomotors > "HAM 2 + oplev" button (that has "controller 5" and "PICO B" next to it), and clicking through the channels and seeing that CH8 is called "PSL ISS QPD/PD (PM5)."

Here's a labeled picture that makes things more clear.

PCAL troubleshooting:
Dripta and I were trying to take FFT's of PCAL Lines for more Power budget work and we noticed that the PCAL Y laser is off with no current on H1:CAL-PCALY_LASERDIODECURRENT. I trended the channel back and compared it with some channels that I thought may link it to the IOP restarts.
Dripta went to EY to toggle the Laser power rocker switch just in case it was just a simple issue of a turn it off and back on again.  Tagging CDS again.

I noticed that MC1 & 3 were saturating.
IMC H1:IMC-WFS_GAIN was set to 0 and the history was cleared to solve the problem of MC1 & MC3 were being saturated.
Trending some channels that were suspected to perhaps  be the cause of the junk signal and thus the cause of the saturations.
The IMC ASC has it's own block to do power normalization, different from the LSC power normalization. The output of this block is "INNORM" used to normalize MC2 NSUM for the IMC WFS triggering.

SUSSR3
SUSRM
SUSIFOOUT

SUSBS (my bad I had sort on substring selected with an old Optical Align string in the search field.)
All SDFs were accepted before the IOP restart.
ITMS  IOPs have not been rebooted yet. Tagging SUS, SQZ & ISC

MC2_trans Beam Dump twas Twissled today, then put back into original place.

The ITMs had their IOP's restarted after a time cable swap today as well.
All SUS were turned back to Aligned.
SEI for HAM 2,3,4  and BSC 1 & 2 still have their HEPI's and or their ISI's WD tripped or other wise in a ISI Damped Hepi offline state.

As you can see from this ITMY trend, Jim went inside to lock the ISI and tripped the ISI, then Jason went in and tripped it again, then there was an IOP restart.

A slightly less exciting trend of ITMX.

BSC1 +Y Door Bolts Removed + BSC2 Dome Bolts Removed, BUT Had One Galled Dome Bolt!

(Jordan V, Corey G)

In prep for upcoming BBSS Install, "broke" bolts (which is slang for loosened them) on:

BSC1's +Y Door Bolts (mostly) Removed & Accelerometer Cable Disconnected

BSC1's door had all bolts but (4) removed.  Sadly, I removed the bottom (easy ones) bolts first and then when I got to the top bolts they were very hard to loosen because of some sag.  Additionally, their access is horrible with:  a stiffening plate for the chamber right above the rear access to these bolts, then there are cable trays also in the way, and the C3 fabric cover is draped in your face the whole time.  Jordan helped out and we were able to get the last top bolt removed.  We also loosened the (4) bolts 1-turn which is the typical procedure.

There was an accelerometer still cabled up to this door.  I disconnected the cable (labeled "PEM:BSC1_ACC_X") and stuffed the cable into the cable tray above this door.

Time lapse of me removing half the bolts in this LINK (since we only files allowed in alog have to be smaller than 15Mb.)  :(

BSC2's Dome Bolts (mostly) Removed, But Have A Galled Bolt!

BSC2's dome bolts were removed.  4-bolts were left in place (they were loosened and then tightened up a little).  One notable, is there is 1-galled dome bolt.  Jordan and I used the long wrenches to see if we could use more force to help it break loose, but no luck.  We did not try pouring some alcohol on the bolt to help as a lubricant.  The bolt is loose and has about 1-2mm of a gap on it.  So, the pros could try use even longer cheater bars, a saw cutter, or they were also chatting about a tool to cut the nut off.  At any rate,

Tues DAY Ops Transition

TITLE: 04/07 Day Shift: 1430-2330 UTC (0730-1630 PST), all times posted in UTC
STATE of H1: Planned Engineering
OUTGOING OPERATOR: None
CURRENT ENVIRONMENT:
    SEI_ENV state: MAINTENANCE
    Wind: 5mph Gusts, 3mph 3min avg
    Primary useism: 0.01 μm/s
    Secondary useism: 0.15 μm/s
QUICK SUMMARY:

Things on the menu for today, HAM1's +y door, venting the corner, and a lot of prep (HAM3 doors should also be coming off this week & more prep for BBSS work!).

h1seih7 is still down (so HAM7 SEI & SUS systems are all red).

The Ops Overview also continues to have "IMC INPUT POWER" flashing from 0-200W (but I was assured this was not real and purely a calculation error; light pipes have been closed since last Fri morning).

OPS Note:  I will leave the con around 1045amPDT for a tour and then to attend a BBSS preparation meeting at 1pm PDT and RyanC has graciously offered to cover for me.

WP 13137 Testing running the MX weather station IOC in a container

To test out new infrastructure for running IOCs and other services in CDS I put the MX weather station into a podman container and started it on our new service-host cluster (a high availbility cluster for services).

As part of this I created a generic container that should work for the other weather stations and the dust monitors (until those are migrated to beckhoff).

This work is part of an effort to improve our infrastructure, including how we track, monitor, and manage our IOCs.  There should not be any user visible change with this, other than the IP address that the IOC responds from is different.

Notes:

 * We run these older IOCs in the background with screen as they are iocsh shells and want a terminal.  For this setup I no longer need to run with screen, we just tell the container system (podman) to run the container with a tty in interactive mode in the background.

Calum and I looked over this plot - the counts are not too bad during the many periods of nearby craning and other activity. The platform and dome have not yet been cleaned. I confirmed that the cross flow tent has positive pressure so Calum and I are comfortable with this new "cleanroom" configuration.
