SHIFT SUMMARY: Recovery from the Mexico earthquake this morning was fairly fast, but it left rung up violin modes that took hours to damp to the point that we could go to low noise. Once in low noise we managed to Observe for over an hour before we lost lock from what seem to be an ETMX/DARM glitch. We ran an initial alignment and now we are powering up. The 0.3-1Hz seismic blrm is starting to come down, so that's a good thing.

QUICK SUMMARY:

IFO is LOCKING at INITIAL_ALIGNMENT

We had a very local EQ during the no-call time on OWL (alog 88001) that tripped the following watchdogs: ISI EY ST1, ISI EY ST2, ISI IX ST1, ISI IX ST2, ISI IY ST1, ISI IY ST2, SUS IX, SUS IY, SUS EY, IX HW WD. IY HW WD, ISI HAM1, SEI ISI IX SW, SEI ISI IY SW, HEPI IX, HEPI IY.

Richard, who was on site, untripped them before shift start.

Just started an initial alignment and now watching out for SRY and IM issues that have happened before during violent WD tripping EQs.

Hoping for a smooth day of OBSERVING

The MY PT243 Cold Cathode vacuum gauge still trying to fire back up. I have extended its alarm bypass. It is the reason for the red "CDS ALARM" indicator on the CDS Overview.

TITLE: 11/07 Eve Shift: 0030-0600 UTC (1630-2200 PST), all times posted in UTC
STATE of H1: Microseism
INCOMING OPERATOR: Ryan C
SHIFT SUMMARY:

Shift started with locking outlook grim, but eventually H1 locked DRMI and it was automatic after that.  There was an issue with ADS lines, but that was mostly taken care of with some help from friends.   Microseism continues to be very high.

Since Locking was fine, we are set for OWL tonight (gave RyanC a heads up).  If there is a lockloss, the ADS Clock Gain SDF diff will need to be accepted.

STATE of H1: Microseism
OUTGOING OPERATOR: TJ
CURRENT ENVIRONMENT:
    SEI_ENV state: USEISM
    Wind: 8mph Gusts, 5mph 3min avg
    Primary useism: 0.04 μm/s
    Secondary useism: 0.77 μm/s
QUICK SUMMARY:

H1 had a bit of a day.  What's new today from TJ---is that H1 is having trouble locking DRMI.

Microseism definitely continues to be the main culprit environmentally with (0.1-0.3 and 0.3-1.0Hz bands both being high and even increasing over the last 6-8hrs).  Winds are now low and it is raining out.

Plan for the EVE shift is to continue with locking.

Plan for OWL shift (if locking woes continue), is to NOT set OWL shift alerts for the night, take ISC_LOCK to IDLE, and then I just touched base with RyanC about having him assess H1 locking about 4hrs after the EVE shift (~around 2AM).  If locking looks better, continue locking, but if it continues to look dire, take ISC_LOCK to IDLE for the OWL shift .

STATE of H1: Observing at 148Mpc
INCOMING OPERATOR: Corey
SHIFT SUMMARY: We had 3 lock losses from Close_Beam_Diverters today. The first reminded us that the issue is still present, even though we didn't have a problem getting locked last night. For the second, we tried to delay when the OMC whitening came on, thinking it was getting engaged too soon while the beam diverters were closing. The third we spaced out when the beam diverters closed, so they wouldn't close all three at once. It lost lock just after the first one closed. We then relocked and went to observing with the beam diverters open, but this ended up being a rather short, 1hr, lock. On the final attempt of this shift, we tested out moving the beam diverters and ended up moving the ISC_LOCK state that closes them to just after engaging ASC for full IFO. We have been observing since. See alog87970 for more beam diverter investigations.

thomas.shaffer@LIGO.ORG - 08:33, Wednesday 05 November 2025 (87969)

Just lost lock at Close_Beam_Diverters. We had two successful relocks last night that went through this state just fine, so I hoped this would go well again today. I'll step through close beam diverters next time.

We tend to have more automated relocks at night, and I wonder the eleveated 1-3Hz ground motion that we see during the day might be shaking us just enough during the day.

STATE of H1: Preventive Maintenance
INCOMING OPERATOR: Ryan S
SHIFT SUMMARY:

Bit of a rough start to the shift with H1 having issues getting to NLN.  Managed to finally get to Observing after a few hours of work (see earlier alogs).  Violins were high (but not off the DARM FOM), and have steadily been dropping over the 2+hrs of this lock.

Had a LOW SQZ_PMC voltage, but squeezer lockloss and automatic relock brought the voltage back to a better state (70+ volts).

SHIFT SUMMARY: Maintenance Tuesday. Relocking hasn't been very successful so far. CO2Y was having IR faulting issues (alog87952), then we had a lock loss that occurred when we got to the Close_Beam_Diverters state, which we saw last week (alog87877). Now we are having a few earthquakes rolling through as we sit in max power. We don't want to advance until the ground stop shaking a bit so we can keep high gain asc on.

thomas.shaffer@LIGO.ORG - 07:55, Tuesday 04 November 2025 (87934)SUS

Looks like this happened to Ryan C last night as well - alog87930. I did just as he did and turned off the damping to violin ETMX modes 1&6, and the saturations went away and DARM looked better. The 500Hz line in DARM is still very elevated, but the harmonics are much lower and the DCPDs are no longer saturating.

Now that the gains are off, the monitors are making more sense for those modes. They immediately went up when the gain was turned off.

SUS in lock charge is running and should be good, at least for the latter half of the measurements.

I've set the gain of ETMX mode 1 to zero in lscparams for now.
