Context: LHO Welders have finished their training at University of Glasgow IGR and have begun the assessing the status of the LHO welding set-up both independently and in the scenario of welding in the staging building with a reaction chain.
Phase 1: Ryan S and I have conducted a thorough shakedown of all that is needed to begin welding in the staging building. Details on each piece of tooling are informally, but rigorously documented and have been uploaded to the DCC: T2400052-v1. Commentary on all existing documentation (SOPs, HAs, Procedures etc.) is also found there.
Here is a summary list of the tooling, fiber and laser equipment that was checked, transported, installed, documented (I've also included procedures and any pre-existing or updated documentation):
Phase 2: Discuss improvements, brainstorm and/or improve the quality of the set-up. In the same document, below the shakedown is an improvement brainstorm in its infancy - expect this to overtake the document once all necessary tooling is fully documented and shaken down. Here is a summary of future improvement brainstorm and propositions:
We've already started on this first bullet via a more formal spreadsheet is being drafted, though still in early progress, with more specific fastener/assembly details. This is to overcome inneficiencies from searching for correct tooling that can be from different versions, metric/imperial, in different labs and spanning upwards of a decade of welding. Annotated pictures of each weld tooling assembly in its current form will be uploaded too.
The Rough Plan:
The plan right now is not only to practice welding at LIGO under site and scenario conditions, but to inherit this welding set-up in an intuitive and transferrable manner with documentation primarily focused on finding weld improvements and areas to consolidate/simplify parts of the set-up. Obviously no major changes will be made without excessive thought, documentation and collaboration. Through this documentation, we would also allow welding communication to be more streamlined between LHO, LLO, Glasgow and the new CIT weld set-up.
