SDF DIFFS were noted and accepted (see images below)

  • H1 doesn't seem to be operating at nominal performance. At NLN, peak range was 113Mpc. It has since been hovering between 100 ad 110 as of present.

QUICK SUMMARY:

H1 locked 10hrs 13 min and Observing from the last squeezer re-lock.

 A trend of the range for the last 8 hours shows the dwindling range. It was much higher when the wind was 40+ and gusting to 50mph 7 hours ago. Currently the winds are gusting to ~26. The degrading range seems to have been trending downward since the back to back squeezer incidents. (110.130Mpc at time of this post.)

The reason the SQZ_MANAGER was stalled, and didn't relock the squeezer, is left over from a mistake I made on Thursday.  

I commented out the line @unstall_nodes decorator in ISC_LOCK Nominal_low_noise, which is a work around for a problem with the new lose management.  If I don't comment out this line, even while the SQZ_MANAGER is in auto mode, ISC_LOCK will take control of it and re-inject squeezing into the IFO, messing up whatever measurements are going on.  Part of this that I don't understand is that it takes several minutes for this to happen.  I usually take this linke out and put it back into the guardian when I'm done with the test, but forgot this time.  We've talked about the problem with Jamie, he says that there is some kind of solution coming, perhaps making the loose management optional so that we can turn it off. 

The SDF diff that Patrick accepted here is that the CLF ISS is on, which it should always be.  It has been off since the observing stretch which we had without squeezing on Thursday.  This is also my mistake, we accepted many SDFs to go to observing without squeezing on Thursday, and this one I didn't undo correctly.

Effect of Commissioning Break on Rate of Scattering Glitches

This work was performed during Detchar noise sprint at LLO, January 29-31, 2020. The main focus was LLO scattering_light glitches, however we repeated some of the studies for LHO as well and thus report them here.


Studied and compared the distribution of scattered_light glitches found by GravitySpy (confidence>=0.9) for all of O3a versus O3b (till January 17th). See distributions attached.

Observations:

1. Rate - ~ten-fold increase of scattered_light glitches found by GravitySpy.
All Scattered Light in O3A: 0.00056 (2.016 /hour) vs. All Scattered Light in O3B: 0.00563 (20.268 /hour)

2. We also looked into September and November (any seasonal effects?) to see how distributions compared to the rest of O3A and O3B, and found them to be very similar to the full runs.

3. We looked at how the number of scattered_light glitches evolved over time and found that scattered_light glitches occur in clusters, and the frequency and size of these clusters has drastically increased between O3A and O3B, see attached plot.

CLF power levels

Trending the CLF REFL PD and IR PDs, we can deduce the CLF transmission through the OPO. The OPO IR PD is installed after a 50:50 beampsplitter, so it should see half the power of the squeezer path, when the beam diverter is closed.

Fast Lockloss with no obvious cause.
I waited 5 minutes with the FFS oscillating before toggling the auto locker- then IMC locked but unlocked straight away. Toggled autolocker again, same thing repeated and I went to DOWN on ISC_LOCK. I think we had the ISS diffracted power not at a steady value too, but the IMC locked before I toggled the ISS autolock. Thank you for the tips in Jason's alog 54467
At the time of this lockloss, the FFS started oscillating like I noted in alog 54711. Sadly the faster channels that Sheila and Dave made on Tuesday don't shed much more light on who is the chicken and who is the egg (lockloss vs FFS), see attached image of todays lockloss.

  • 01:59 I manually requested X-arm to go to increase flashes as it was stuck at LOCKED_SLOW_WFS with power at 0.5 see attached image.
    • The lockloss questionaire says that this has happened a couple of times (1/26/2020 3:59:55, 1/22/2020 23:52:59), maybe we could add a step that checks if the WFS have been offloaded after a certian amount of time, and if not, re-request I.F. tagging GRD
  • 02:27 Started initial alignment as we went to our second PRMI attempt

    • Had the same rounding error ALS SDF diffs that Corey had (alog 54810), maybe Jenne's fix hasn't yet taken effect.
