nuc5 computer replaced with new model, clean debian9 install

Carlos, Dave:

A new nuc (build name nuc25) has been installed as nuc5 in the control room (was renamed to nuc5). The old nuc was renamed to nuc25 so I could take files off it.

I've tested the kinit script generates a kerberos nuc5 robot ticket, and the dmtviewers are able to obtain data. My new startup script expands and starts the plots correctly. The new machine had its screen saver on, I've manually turned it off. Because it has the same name, the web links to its screenshots are operational.

Reminder, we are fixing the problem whereby one of the dmtviewers segfaults after a random period of time, anywhere from 7 minutes to over a day.

Lower right dmtviewer (3-30Hz) just segfaulted, so problem maybe inherrent with deb9? Perhaps time to downgrade this machine back to deb8 for further testing.

david.barker@LIGO.ORG - 22:09, Thursday 05 September 2019 (51765)

actually there is no segfault dmesg for tonight's crashes. Looks like 3-30Hz dmtviewer has crashed at least twice in the past 5 hours.

Booted nuc5 at 12:39am and everything started fine, but the Upper Displays low-freq seismic DMT Viewer stopped running at 12:53am.

noise budget injections

Sheila, Kara

We got a set of noise budget injections in while LLO was doing some commisioning, with the new PRCL FF, SRCL offset, and the curent spot positions.

We used a reference time of  Sep 05 2019 22:31:51 UTC, we turned off the squeezer for a no squeezing reference at Sep 05 2019 23:06:57-23:17:00  UTC

We did a light set of injections, including PRCL, SRCL, MICH, intensity noise, frequency noise, IMC PZT P+Y, and CAHRD and DHARD. Results will be posted tomorow.

Here are the results of yesterdays noise budget injections when the squeezer was on.

We are being limited by laser intensity noise at higher frequencies, which have gotten worse since our last noise budget (see Georia's alog 50104). In Georgia's alog, the shot noise was not correctly budgeted for. This is true in our noise budget as well, but it is not as obvious due to the increased intensity noise.

update on nuc5 investigation

Jonathan, Carlos, Dave:

I've posted details in the FRS. I was able to see a segfault on one of the dmtviewers during testing this morning.

History:

Tue 3rd Sep 2019: maintenance, nuc5 upgraded from deb8 to deb9 (Carlos), launch.sh script modified to auto start dmtviewer and diaggui (Dave)

Tue 3rd Sep 2019: evening, Ed sees the FOM_STS dmtviewer crash.

Thu 5th Sep 2019: early hours, Travis sees the FOM_3-30Hz crash twice within hours

Thur 5th Sep 2019: Dave sees FOM_STS crash (segfault reported)

Carlos has been testing a dmtviewer (IFO range) on a new Nuc machine running a clean deb9 install in his office with no problems.

So, PLAN A is to upgrade nuc5 from its current old hardware with an upgraded deb9 to a new nuc with a clean deb9 install.

In the mean time, if a dmtviewer crashes, the easy way to restart it without having to reboot nuc5:

Get remote access to nuc5

    xvncviewer nuc5

Open a terminal on the Desktop, and type

    pkill dmtviewer

    pkill diaggui

    /home/controls/startup/launch.sh

No water was added to the top or bottom. The "D" filter had some very slight darker discoloration toward the bottom of the filter, but perhaps the plastic was tricking me.

I forgot to mention that during initial alignment, MICH bright locked, but I left it in down for about 30seconds. It seemed to try to move out of down too fast.

NUC5 Seismic 1-30Hz plots go missing

Near the beginning of my shift, I noticed that the 1-30Hz Seismic plots on NUC5 had disappeared.  Since these now auto-start/arrange on restart, I decided to just boot the machine rather than fumbling with remote desktops.  This worked . . . for a while.  Now ~2 hours into my shift, the plots have again disappeared.  Perhaps the startup script needs an update?

I'm investigating. This one is puzzling as this is one of two dmtviewers on this computer and there is no problem with the other dmtviewer, which kinda rules out a cert problem.
