TSC-Y Chiller Water Leak
   This morning the TCS-Y chiller water level had dropped to 9.0cm. I added 500ml water to bring it back up to 10.0cm. This means the chiller is losing about 0.5l/day.

Best estimates of masses of ETMs and comparison with masses in suspension models

With help from Stuart Aston at LLO and RahulK, BetsyW, JeffK, and EdM at LHO, this entry documents our current best understanding of the suspended masses of the ETMs.

Note that the Photon Calibrators generate calibrated forces on the ETMs via radiation pressure.  The overall uncertainty of the actuation forces is below 1%, closer to 0.5% for the observing run.

To accurately translate these calibration forces into calibrated displacements, we require accurate masses of the suspended ETMs.  A 0.1% error in the suspended mass directly couples into a 1% error in the calibrated displacements.

Here is what we know:

LHOx - 39611 grams

LHOy - 39538 grams

LLOx - 39508 grams                                            

LLOy-  39642 grams

44 grams (2 x 22 grams)

The total mass of AMD1, 2, 3 and 4 is 0.80gm, 0.54gm and 0.39gm and 0.32gm respectively.

Total: 2.05 g

So our current best guesses for the masses are (neglecting the fibers for now):

LHO EX: 39611 + 44 + 2.05 = 39657 g

LHO EY: 39538 + 44 +2.05 = 39584 g

LLO EX: 39508 + 44 +2.05 = 39554 g

LLO EY: 39642 + 44 + 1.78 = 39688 g (Missing one AMD)

Thus the masses in the suspension models as of May 22, 2019 seem to be (models may not be including the 2 g from the AMDs):

LHO EX: 39603 + 44 + 2.05 = 39649 g

LHO EY: 39597 + 44 +2.05 = 39643 g

LLO EX: 39508 + 44 +2.05 = 39554 g (was 39552 +46 = 39598 until 2/15/2019)

LLO EY: 39642+ 44 +1.78 = 39688 g (was 39686+46 = 39732 until 2/15/2019)

 

Summary

H1ETMX

Current model value 39649 g, should be 39657 g, error: model 8 g lighter than actual (0.02%)

H1ETMY

Current model value 39643 g, should be 39584 g, error: model 60 g heavier than actual (0.15%)

L1ETMX

Current model value 39554 g (correct value)

L1ETMY

Current model value 39688 g, was 39732 g until Feb 15, 2019, error: model 44 g lighter than actual (0.11%)

Theoretically, I estimated that each fused silica fibres should have a mass of about 0.494 grams, however if we consider around half of the fibre bending (when pendulum swings) then it should be around 0.247grams. Making a total of 0.988 grams for all four fibres.

If we want more precision, then it is better to take into account the actual bending length (which should around 20 mm from the top of the fibre). This should be around 0.172 grams (0.688 grams for all 4 fibres).

All plots seem nominally ok. FSS TPD is currently at 2.535V, which is a bit low and the reflected spot has shifted from it's previous alignment.

Relocking today - SRC ASC offsets needed at 2W, but not higher power?

We had some problems engaging the SRC ASC after maintenance day today.

I don't understand why we needed this offset at 2W and not at 5W. But as a temporary stopgap I will put it in the guardian, switching it on at PREP_ASC_FOR_FULL_IFO (line 2475), and switching it off at INCREASE_POWER (lines 3391 and 3392, hopefully no typos this time, sorry Jim!)

Patrick and Travis also noted that ALS_COMM required human intervention a few times while locking, the offset needed to be tuned up by hand and at least once the x-arm green alingment required tweaking in order to complete the FIND_IR state.

TMSX telescope and ISCTEX, beam position check (Betsy, Keita)

After 88:46:58-long nominal low noise lock was lost, we quickly drove to the EX to check the beam position on curved optics on TMSX telescope as well as the ISCTEX. We didn't expect this to be really bad but if we want to pico or set new offset to green QPD we need to at least have some idea about the starting point.

TMSX primary mirror was photographed from inside ISCTEX through the viewport for IR transmission using a monopod with cell phone attachment (glorified selfie stick) to go close. Though not totally in focus, you can see that the beam spot is low and close to me.

The secondary mirror beam spot was pictured using an unused IR analog camera port. We have found that the location of the illuminator and the camera (T1000746 Viewport FDR page 41) are inverted, i.e. the camera port was lower, which allowed us to look at the secondary very clearly. No disaster here. BTW the illuminator was not usable (no power, probably the bad cable).

On ISCTEX, two 1" lenses looked good (ALS-L5 and L6 in D1800270 ISCTEX Optical Layout) and the 2" lens ALS-L7 was fairly off for my taste. We checked the PBS for combining Hartmann and ALS green but nothing suspicious.

We would have fixed at least the table but it was already 12:30-ish so we gave up. Will check EY next week.

OPLEV charge measurements on ETMX and ETMY

The IFO lock broke at 11 am following which charge measurements on the ETMX and ETMY were performed. Results are attached below. For the ETMX the bias voltage is around 20-30 V and the long term trend also looks fine (is not rising too quickly). For the ETMY, the effective bias is within 10-30 V, except for the Yaw in the 2nd quadrant which is around 40V. The long term trend for the 2nd quadrant for the pitch and yaw mode, looks to be slowly rising; the other quadrant looks to be within the permissible limit. 

The slider values for the optical levers were reset to their original position after the measurements were completed. Any SDF differences were removed too.

Wind Fence Anemometer Layout change at EndX

Got the bird nest cleared out (thanks Chris) and Richard hauled the cable up securing the last available anemometer to the frame of the weather station array, see first image.  Second image includes the proto type fence in the background, sadly no shots of me or Richard.  The third attachment has the new layout with some dims and sensor numbers.  Instrument #3 which been just 2' above ground, AGL, just behind the fence was moved as far up wind, to the southwest, as available cable would allow; the instrument is 16'agl.  Ideally that would have been sensor_1 but that cable must be faulty,  we reconnected it with sensor_3 cable and it worked.  Wind_Speed_2 is unmoved and is 12'agl.

Wind Sensors on H1ECATX1 now back online

Wind sensors were reported offline last Thursday, alog 49289. Beckhoff EP3174-0002 terminals and hub were power cycled. One of the terminals came back in PreOp state. Patrick logged into H1ECATX1 and changed state to Op.

PR3 GigE Camera

Looked at cabling for PR3 camera. Found no issues with cabling. Camera was power cycled but still unresponsive. Carlos logged into the digital video server and was able to disable and restart the camera. Camera is now back online.

TCS Chiller Water Level Top-Off - Weekly
   TSC-X chiller water level was full. Added no water. 

   TCS-Y chiller has a leak in the front part of the chiller (perhaps pump shaft seal, loose fitting, hose leak). There is water on the floor. Did not pull panels as the chiller is still running. Added 2700ml of water to bring the level back up to 10.1. 

   Informed Betsy of the leak.
