EX TMS Work

(Corey, Keita, Lisa, Matt, Virginio)

ISC Table Layout Has Begun

I roughly laid out the QPD Sleds, High Power Beam Dump, & Beam Diverter.  Matt & Lisa started laying out all the rest of the optics (which required brining all the hardware from the Corner Station and then building each component, and then laying it out.)  Most of the optics are now on the Table.  Matt & Lisa will finish off laying them out and then begin aligning everything next week.

Telescope:  Staging & Tooling

Virginio & I unwrapped Tooling for suspending the Telescope.  Virginio is staging to start using our alignment laser.

Continuing To ICS

Continue to start making Assy Loads and accounting for all parts used for this installation.

EX TMS Weather

Relative Humidity started at 30% in the morning and went to 35% in the afternoon.  We will receive desicant packs and hygrometers on Mon/Tues.

TMS Mock Feedthru

Helped Filiberto connect the "roof-side" (vs. lab-side) cables to this Feedthru on Fri as well.  We only installed 4 (of 5) cables (5th cable had a bad connector).

started first EX front end computer, caused DAQ problems, stopped running computer

Following the installation of timing, networking and ipc in EX, we booted the h1susauxex front end computer and started the IOP model. This caused mx-stream DAQ errors from many other front ends, including all at EY and on the LVEA test stand. Restarting the mx streamers on these front ends did not clear the problem. When h1susauxex was powered down (thereby killing the mx streaming) all the other front ends became good again with intervention needed.

We will keep EX powered down for this weekend and revisit this problem Monday or Tuesday next week.

You may be encountering problems when manually starting models

You will see that the old scripts start_streamers.sh and start_iop_mx_stream.sh still use a single port MX stream. 
As described, modifying start_streamers.sh is easy (merely stop/start /etc/init.d/mx_stream). Discard start_iop_mx_stream.sh.

* I have tested the new startup scheme described there on the LLO DAQ test stand, but have not attempted in on L1.
The RCG 2.7 roll-out would be a good chance to do that.

Also make sure that the /diskless/root/etc/rtsystab file has been updated with a line for the new computer and IOP model.  Several startup scripts depend on it.  In particular /etc/init.d/mx_stream uses it to figure out the MX stream card and slot.

There was a configuration error on the EX DAQ switch on two ports, including the one for h1susauxex (h1seiex being the other).  It was missing the mtu setting to allow transmission of jumbo frames (the dainbramaged CLI pagination code in these switches makes this hard to see, even when expressly looking for it...).  This has been corrected, and I suspect it will work now barring any other problems, but this is yet to be tested.

Dust Monitor Y Beam Manifold Seismic Test Stand
Changed out the 9 pin cable that connects this dust monitor to the 485 loop in the hopes of reducing data problems.  The cable that was connected was twice as long and may have had too much voltage drop to properly power the dust monitor when the motor was running.

End X CDS networking has been installed.
The End-X network switches for front-end and daq traffic have been connected, allowing the front end computers for the end-x to be started when needed.  The RFM switch has also been connected between the corner and end-x.

h1pemmx has been restarted
Network reconfiguration is complete, h1pemmx has been restarted.  As a bonus, the timing master to timing slave issue has been solved, so the timing is no longer out of sync.

HIFO activity

Currently our focus is on two main tasks : refinement of Alexa's control model and the CARM control with the PFD (Phase Frequency Discriminator).

As a result the UGF of the end PDH loop became 9.7 kHz with a phase margin of 50 deg. Probably we could go higher but we can't go higher than 17 kHz where the phase margin turns in zero.

Control filters installed on BSC-ISI, BS
Level 2 and level 3 control loops have been designed for the BSC-ISI, BS chamber. Level 3 unity gain frequency is 40 Hz on Stage 1, and 30 Hz on Stage 2, like for the units previously commissioned. 

The loops have been installed along with the sensor correction and feed-forward filters.

I ran a quick measurement, the results are attached. The loops seem to work as they should. We'll take more data and we'll do more analysis tomorrow. We'll also turn on a blend/sensor correction configuration that induces less motion amplification at low frequency.

Like for ITMY, we still have to tune the sensor correction and feed-forward gains as it was done on ETMY.

EX TMS Lab Work

Lab Humidity:  39-42%

Virginio continued building the Telescope and he's ready to install mirrors (more on this later).

The ISC Telescope Assy is complete and is ready for Lisa & Matt to layout optics on it.  Started making an ICS Assembly Load for the Telescope Sub-Assembly, here.

Lisa started cleaning Ag-coated Telescope optics.  Since the humidity at the lab is over 20%, we've decided to hold off on installing until we receive desicant pouches from CIT (humidity is detrimental to the silver coating).

ETMY long2pitch decoupling

Following Mark B. work on decoupling longitudinal top mass excitation to test mass pitch motion, filters have been designed, installed in the TEST top mass filterbank and are ready to be tested.

ISI-BSC 1 - Some filters installed

After getting some good performance last week on BSC6, more aggressive controllers (feedback - level 2 and Level 3) were installed on BSC1. Feedforward and sensor corrections filters were also implemented but some tuning will be necessary to get the best of these approaches.

I have attached calibrated spectra of stage 2 in the X and Z directions when the ISI is damped and controlled (Damping + Isolation feedback + Sensor correction + feedforward). HEPI at BSC1 is still locked and we can notice the resonance of the pier around 10Hz.
It seems that the sensor correction effect is limited in the Z direction (poor tuning or filters not engaged? – A second measurement will be performed tomorrow).

ETMx Monolithic Welding

Good progress had been made on successfully welding 2 of 4 fibers to the ETMx and it's PUM this morning.  However, upon completion of the 5th weld we noticed a small feature had appeared behind the top left corner of one of the prisms on the PUM.  While observing the feature for another 10 minutes, the feature grew and became an obvious fracture in the glass mass.  The fracture started while we were welding in close proximity to the prism.  Once we noticed the feature we stopped welding.  Note, the prism takes a compressive load when the QUAD is fully suspended, so it is not yet obvious that we should or should not continue to use this mass.  We have been in contact with SYS, in an attempt to catch COC before COB today - we plan to talk in the morning with a wider audience about what to do next.

The h1pemmx front-end is powered down to move network connections and reroute timing.  We anticipate that it will be back Friday by 12:00 Noon.

EX TMS Work Yesterday

Continue to build up the Telescope and In-Vac ISC Table assemblies.

Spent time contemplating how to make TMS Assy Loads in ICS.

Topic of humidity came up in the Weekly TMS Meeting came up yesterday---namely the negative effects of humidity on Optic coatings.  We have a Dust Monitor in the Lab, but it isn't "online".  (For a "first Humidity data point", had a humidity of 21% mid-afternoon time yesterday)  In the future, we'll be receiving desicant packs from CIT and will make "Ameristat bags/covers" for our assys with optics and place desicant within these "bags".

Lisa has completed cleaning of all 2" optics which go on the In-Vac Table.  We will gather opto-mechanical hardware for these optics & then transport this to EX.

Actually, want to nullify that "first data point".  I assumed the Dust Monitor was constantly running, but it wasn't.  Once Virginio Started it, this is when we saw humidity levels around ~40%.  Now it's worth noting we have had some rare summer rainstorms for the last few days.

ODC status update

Following Ryan's recent odc label update, the "damp" ODC bit has been updated for MC1 MC2 MC3 PRM PR2 PR3 ETMY ITMY BS SRM SR2 SR3, and is now properly working (cf exemple on picture attached)

In order to do that, I set every suspensions in their "damped state", and ran the attached bash script to update the "STATE_GOOD" epic value "H1:SUS-${OPTIC}_${MASS}_DAMP_${DOF}_STATE_GOOD", with the "STATE_NOW" epic value "H1:SUS-${OPTIC}_${MASS}_DAMP_${DOF}_STATE_NOW".

The "damp" bit (here, BIT 6 on the picture) is ONLY a function of the filters engaged in the damping filterbank. It won't turn red when a gain is changed for instance.
