After many aborted attempts to bond ears to this test mass since Dec, we were finally successful today. Gerardo and I placed a near perfect ear bond of ear 65 to ETM13 S4 flat - no bubbles and placed within spec with very small error. This test mass is designated to be the new ETMX for LHO eventually.

WP6507 GDS software upgrade
Jim:
GDS software upgraded to version 2.17.9-2
Guardian DIAG_MAIN restart
Travis, Dave:
The DIAG_MAIN guardian node was stopped and started to free up the memory it was using. The available memory on h1guardian0 went from 35.5GB to 43.7 as a result.
CDS computer labeling
Dave:
In both the EX and EY CDS computer racks all computers are labeled both front and back.
WAP power up notification
Richard, Carlos:
WAP power up notifications were tested. System needs some more investigation. WAPS are now all OFF.
WP6508 h1lsc model change, REFLDC being sent to ASC, should be POPDC.
Jenne, Keita, Dave:
h1lsc mode was modified and restarted. No DAQ restart was necessary.
h1brsex found to have RED error LED on front panel, machine was rebooted and code restarted
Jim, Dave, Carlos:
During my EX visit I noticed that the front panel red led was ON. This had been seen on h1brsey late 2016. h1brsex was rebooted and the code restarted.
Channel list attached.
This completes WP #6472 As with the others, this unit had standing water within the housing and should benefit from the drain installed as part of this modification.
Jeff is seeing a matlab nds2 client error, Jonathan thinks it may be related to maintenance. I am able to get a channel list from the caltech nds2 server using diaggui, but matlab reports the error:
>> nds2.connection('nds.ligo.caltech.edu')
Java exception occurred:
java.lang.RuntimeException: Error occurred trying to write to socket
at nds2.nds2JNI.new_connection__SWIG_2(Native Method)
at nds2.connection.<init>(connection.java:51)
Richard M., Filiberto C. I energized the Y2-8 BT ion pump after the CDS guys repaired the shorted pump-end connector. As the attached pressure plot indicates, the pump is obviously working. Curiously, however, the indicated pressure and current on the controller read zeros. I wonder if the current sensing components were damaged during the arcing/shorting bursts leading up to the final short? Regardless, these two values are local only and are not "seen" by CDS.
Work was done under WP 34466. Cable was tested with HiPOT tester (5kV).
Dave noticed that there was an error light on at the BRSX Beckhoff box. Looking the the event logs with Carlos, we found some software errors that we suspect are responsible for this, shown in the attached screenshot. This seems to happen frequently with BRSX (I haven't checked BRSY yet, but we found the light on at the chassis at EY some time in December(?) as well). We cleared this by restarting the BRSX machine, but we aren't sure what the cause is or why the chassis light came on because of a software issue.
TWINCAT error codes reports the following for error 0x4225:
Drive not ready during axis start
During an axis start it is ascertained that the drive is not ready. The following are possible causes: - the drive is in failure state (hardware fault) - the drive is in the starting-up stage (e.g. following an axis reset preceded by a hardware fault) - the drive has not been enabled
Remark: The time required for "booting" a drive after a hardware fault can amount to several seconds.
Give them a couple days for thermal stabilization and I'll check the spectra then. The HAM5 unit is the one from EndY which was with the BRS that just did not have the quality we wanted. The HAM5 STS is located in the Bier Garten for huddling with the ITMY STS; it is maybe 2 meters away. The HAM2 unit never moved, just borrowed the Host Box for a couple weeks.
The T240 on the floor still looked well centered this morning so I opened the BRS thermal house, pulled the STS2 and installed the T240. Wrapped it up in an ad hoc thermal blanket; maybe the low end will be even better for it.
Couple photos attached. Will post some data after a few hours or tomorrow--likely will need a mass centering as this will be a different temp environment for the instrument.
Addition: the channels are:
X == H1:PEM-EY_ADC_0_09_OUT_DQ
Y == H1:PEM-EY_ADC_0_10_OUT_DQ
Z == H1:PEM-EY_ADC_0_19_OUT
That's right, the Z signal has no DQ variant.
[Dave, Kiwamu]
Since the ECR (E1700074) had been approved last night, we went ahead and implemented the change (34445) in h1asc in this morning. The below is a list of the new DAQ channels that are newly added for this bullseye system.
The model restarted just fine. The medm screen was updated to reflect the new channel names and etc. See the attached for the new medm screen. This screen is accessible from the pull down tab of PSL on SITEMAP.
While checking the new ADS matrix, I discovered a bug in the LSC model. The ASC and ADS get length and power buildup signals from the LSC model. These are then used as error signals for the ADS, and the buildups as potential dynamic power normalization options for ASC error signals.
However, what is supposed to be POPAIR_B_LF (POP DC) from the LSC model is actually currently REFLAIR_B_LF. The attached image is a tiny portion of the LSC model, showing that what goes up a level is actually coming from a REFL tag, not a POP tag. (I'll try to remember to put more screenshots showing the signal flow later, but want to get this fixed since it's maint. day).
At LHO, we are not actually using this signal to run the IFO. We just occasionally look at it if we're demodulating things trying to find new error signals, during commissioning time. I'll call LLO to check if they use it, because if they do (I don't think they do), they'll need to check on things.
This has now been fixed (WP 6508). LLO is also not using this signal during normal IFO operation, so them fixing it will not cause any problems. Adam is aware, and will look at it.
I removed the beam dumps from the FLIR camera path from both TCS tables today, as per LHO WP 6492.
TCSy
On the TCSy table, I found no beam dump in the FLIR camera path. The first attachment (TCSy_as_found_zoom_noFLIRBD.jpg) shows a close up shot of the area the dump is supposed to be installed; the empty table fork that holds the dump in place is still on the table. As there was no beam dump installed here, there wasn't one to remove. On to TCSx.
TCSx
On the TCSx table, the FLIR camera beam dump was installed as expected. The 2nd attachment (TCSx_as_found_zoomBD.jpg) shows a close up of the beam dump, sitting just beyond the small power meter. I removed this beam dump, which can be seen in the final attachment (TCSx_zoom_BD_removed.jpg).
As of the writing of this alog, both TCS CO2 lasers are turned on and functioning normally. This closes WP 6492.
I reset both PSL power watchdogs at 17:40 UTC (9:40 PST). This closes FAMIS task 3639.
FRS 7447 WP 6507 The GDS software in the control room has been updated to gds-2.17.9-2 (branch) to correct a bug in foton and add an enhancement to the NDS2 interface to diaggui. This affects Debian 8, Ubuntu 12.04, and Ubuntu 14.04 workstations. For control room use, the following bugs were fixed: Bugzilla 1072 - Add GDS channel names to the list of channels displayed using the NDS2 interface. This allows ${IFO}:GDS-CALIB_STRAIN channels to be analyzed using diaggui. Bugzilla 1075 - Changed format of the gain coefficient in filter files as written by foton to include more decimal places. Some filters with very large gains were being flagged as having a mismatch between design and coefficients because not enough decimal places were used (with very large gain values) and the filter could not be reconstructed accurately using the coefficients from the filter file. Note that the affected filter files will still report this condition with the new version of foton until foton is used to rewrite the filter file with the new format.
As per LHO WP 6501, this morning I temperature tuned the HPO pump diodes after last Saturday's pump diode current increase. I began by turning the ISS OFF and then proceeded to tune the HPO pump diodes' operating temperature. The old and new pump diode operating temperatures for the 7 diodes in each diode box are listed in Table 1 below.
Diode Box 1 (°C) | Diode Box 2 (°C) | Diode Box 3 (°C) | Diode Box 4 (°C)
Old | New | Old | New | Old | New | Old | New
D1 | 25.5 | 25.0 | 20.0 | 20.0 | 22.0 | 22.0 | 24.5 | 24.0 |
D2 | 26.0 | 25.5 | 19.5 | 19.5 | 26.0 | 26.0 | 22.0 | 21.5 |
D3 | 28.0 | 27.5 | 20.5 | 20.5 | 26.0 | 26.0 | 23.5 | 23.0 |
D4 | 24.5 | 24.0 | 18.5 | 18.5 | 23.0 | 23.0 | 22.0 | 21.5 |
D5 | 26.5 | 26.0 | 18.5 | 18.5 | 27.0 | 27.0 | 24.0 | 23.5 |
D6 | 26.0 | 25.5 | 19.0 | 19.0 | 21.5 | 21.5 | 24.0 | 23.5 |
D7 | 23.5 | 23.0 | 19.5 | 19.5 | 22.5 | 22.5 | 24.0 | 23.5 |
In addition, I increased the current to DB1 by a further 0.2A to bring it closer to the other diode boxes; this diode box is starting to decay more rapidly than the others, so is likely to need replacement first. A summary of the old and new HPO diode box operating currents is shown in Table 2 below. The PSL HPO is now outputting ~169.0 W.
Operating Current (A) | ||
Old (pre-2/25/2017) | New (2/28/2017)
DB1 | 51.0 | 51.7 |
DB2 | 51.0 | 51.5 |
DB3 | 51.0 | 51.5 |
DB4 | 51.0 | 51.5 |
Following that, with the ISS still OFF, I then proceeded to tweak the beam alignnment into the PMC; only small tweaks were necessary to to maximize the transmitted power. With the ISS turned back ON, the PMC transmitted power is now 65.0 W and the PMC reflected power is now 14.0 W. This closes WP 6501.
